Sandy was born in Shiprock, NM in the chill month of November, and she currently resides in Albuquerque, NM. In 2010, she graduated from Kirtland Central High School in Kirtland, NM ("Go Broncos") and pursued higher education in Lawrence, KS, at Haskell Indian Nations University (HINU).
While at HINU, Sandy was a collegiate athlete, participating in volleyball and softball - ONWARD HASKELL. She also experienced an inter-tribal community that felt like home and full of Native humor. She made new friends from all around Turtle Island and heard about the variety of issues their communities face on their respective reservations.
Returning to NM in 2017, she worked a handful of years in the treatment foster care world. Through this experience, she was able to work with Indigenous children, helping instill pride in where they come from and of being Indigenous, and help place them in healthy, loving and competent homes.
Moving forward with Indigenous Women Rising, Sandy understands the importance of autonomy for others and herself. She is committed to working hard with our Tribal Nations to help all birthing peoples on Turtle Island have access to proper reproductive health care needs and fight for sovereign rights as Indigenous peoples.
